American Flood Coalition Recognizes Representative Tim Moore as a Federal Champion

As North Carolina faces stronger storms and more frequent flooding, Rep. Moore commits to leading on flood solutions.

WASHINGTON, DC — March 7, 2025 — The American Flood Coalition (AFC) today recognized Representative Tim Moore (NC) as a Federal Champion for his leadership, public service, and commitment to finding solutions to challenges posed by flooding.

“As a long-time public servant for the people of North Carolina, I have witnessed our citizens’ incredible resilience after Hurricane Helene and countless other storms,” said Rep. Moore. “The American Flood Coalition has been a strong partner in advancing solutions to better protect North Carolinians and taxpayers alike. As a Federal Champion, I look forward to continuing to collaborate with AFC on reforming the broken federal disaster system and delivering effective investments that make our communities more resilient for the future.”

Rep. Moore joins 50 bipartisan AFC Federal Champions, those members of Congress dedicated to advancing solutions to stronger storms and more frequent flooding. Rep. Moore is the eighth Federal Champion from the Tar Heel State, joining Sens. Ted Budd and Thom Tillis and Reps. Don Davis, Chuck Edwards, Virginia Foxx, Greg Murphy, and David Rouzer.

“As Speaker of the North Carolina House, Representative Moore steered North Carolina toward more effective and efficient approaches to flood solutions,” said Melissa Roberts, Executive Director, American Flood Coalition. “We are delighted to continue working with him as a Federal Champion. Alongside dozens of North Carolina local, state, and county officials, we can ensure flood-affected communities in his district and beyond can both recover and thrive in the wake of disasters.”

During his tenure from 2015–2025 as Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives, Rep. Moore oversaw the legislature’s response to numerous major disasters as well as long-term preparation and resilience strategies. In 2021, he was instrumental in enacting the state’s first-ever comprehensive watershed-based strategy to protect against flooding, known as the North Carolina Flood Resiliency Blueprint. This $20 million initiative provides communities with guidance on how to make decisions and drive investments in the most flood-prone communities.
