American Flood Coalition Recognizes Senator Ted Budd as a Federal Champion
As North Carolina faces stronger storms and rising sea levels, Sen. Budd commits to leading on flood solutions.
WASHINGTON, DC — June 12, 2024 — The American Flood Coalition (AFC) today recognized Senator Ted Budd (R-NC) as a Federal Champion for his leadership, public service, and commitment to finding solutions to challenges posed by flooding.
“North Carolinians know all too well the dangers of flooding. That’s why we must continue efforts to mitigate the impacts of hurricanes and extreme weather,” said Sen. Budd. “I will work to make federal flood programs straightforward and efficient so North Carolina’s families and businesses are well-prepared when disaster strikes.”
Sen. Budd joins 41 bipartisan AFC Federal Champions, those members of Congress dedicated to advancing solutions to stronger storms, more frequent flooding, and higher seas. Sen. Budd is the sixth Federal Champion from the Tarheel State, joining Sen. Thom Tillis, and Reps. Don Davis, Virginia Foxx, Greg Murphy, and David Rouzer.
“The American Flood Coalition is excited to welcome Senator Budd to our impressive roster of Federal Champions from North Carolina,” said Melissa Roberts, Executive Director of the American Flood Coalition. “Senator Budd has championed solutions to make federal programs work better — particularly for rural communities — and to ensure military’s readiness as installations across the nation face more frequent and severe flooding.”
Prior to being elected to the U.S. Senate in 2022, Senator Budd served three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he represented North Carolina’s 13th Congressional District.
Sen. Budd has prioritized protecting North Carolina communities, infrastructure, and military installations from major storms and flooding while conserving taxpayer dollars. As a member of the Senate Commerce Committee, Senator Budd successfully led a proposal in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act of 2024 to ensure funding from the Airport Improvement Program can be used to enhance flood resilience at airport facilities.
