American Flood Coalition Recognizes Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks as a Federal Champion

As Iowa faces stronger storms and more frequent flooding, Rep. Miller-Meeks commits to leading on flood solutions.

WASHINGTON, DC — July 12, 2024 — The American Flood Coalition (AFC) today recognized Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) as a Federal Champion for her leadership, public service, and commitment to finding solutions to challenges posed by flooding.

“I have been proud to champion smart investments to upgrade aging flood infrastructure, while enhancing federal policy to protect Iowans from the threat of increasingly extreme storms and floods,” said Rep. Miller-Meeks. “I am proud to be recognized as an American Flood Coalition Federal Champion for this work and look forward to partnering on efforts to help Iowa communities thrive today and into the future.”

Rep. Miller-Meeks joins 45 bipartisan AFC Federal Champions, those members of Congress dedicated to advancing solutions to stronger storms, more frequent flooding, and higher seas. Rep. Miller-Meeks is the fourth Federal Champion from the Hawkeye State, joining Sen. Joni Ernst and Reps. Ashley Hinson and Zach Nunn.

“Representative Miller-Meeks has shown a steadfast commitment to investing in local and state capacity and building greater flood resilience along the Mississippi River and throughout Eastern Iowa,” said Melissa Roberts, Executive Director of the American Flood Coalition. “The Congresswoman understands the unique needs of Iowa communities, and AFC looks forward to deepening our partnership with her to ensure federal investments deliver greater flood resilience for Iowans.”

Rep. Miller-Meeks has championed investment in modernizing aging flood infrastructure throughout her district and robust in-state technical capacity and expertise through the Iowa Flood Center.

She has also supported delivery of updated, nationwide rainfall data, as well as more cohesive national flood information and forecasting capabilities and enhanced public communication around major storms and floods.
