As Kentucky faces stronger storms and more frequent flooding, Rep. McGarvey commits to leading on solutions that strengthen flood resilience and improve disaster recovery for communities across the state.
WASHINGTON, DC — August 20, 2026 — The American Flood Coalition (AFC) today recognized Representative Morgan McGarvey (KY) as a Federal Champion for his leadership, public service, and commitment to finding solutions to challenges posed by flooding.
“As Louisville and our commonwealth contend with severe storms and devastating flooding, I am committed to delivering proactive investments in flood-ready infrastructure, driving initiatives that support healthy riversheds, and designing a faster, more efficient federal system that helps communities recover stronger,” said Rep. McGarvey. “As a Federal Champion, I am proud to work with the American Flood Coalition across these initiatives and deliver reforms that Kentuckians and communities across the country deserve.”
Representative McGarvey joins 58 bipartisan AFC Federal Champions, those members of Congress dedicated to combatting the effects of stronger storms and more frequent flooding. As the first Federal Champion from Kentucky, Rep. McGarvey brings a decade of state legislative experience and a strong bipartisan record on flood resilience and disaster recovery reform to this work.
“Rep. McGarvey represented Louisville in the Kentucky Senate for a decade before bringing that same commitment to Congress, giving him an understanding of what flooding costs his constituents, communities across Kentucky, and what it takes to deliver results at the federal level,” said Melissa Roberts, AFC Founder and Executive Director. “His work to advance FEMA reform, support local infrastructure projects, and better harness nature-based solutions throughout the Ohio River Basin affirms him as a strong leader for flood-impacted communities in Congress.”
Rep. McGarvey has worked to strengthen flood resilience and disaster recovery for Louisville and communities across Kentucky, including bipartisan proposals to reform FEMA’s disaster response and resilience programs. He has also led efforts to secure federal investments to address flooding and upgrade aging stormwater infrastructure in Louisville and across Kentucky’s third congressional district. As Co-Chair of the bipartisan Ohio River Caucus, Rep. McGarvey has also introduced legislation to dedicate federal funding for Ohio River Basin restoration initiatives, improving river health and better protecting communities against storms and flooding.
