As Colorado faces stronger storms and more frequent flooding, Rep. Neguse commits to leading on flood solutions.

WASHINGTON, DC — January 9, 2025 — The American Flood Coalition (AFC) today recognized Representative Joe Neguse (D-CO) as a Federal Champion for his leadership, public service, and commitment to finding solutions to challenges posed by flooding.

“We’ve seen how interconnected disasters like drought, wildfires, and floods seriously threaten lives, livelihoods, and communities throughout Colorado and across the West,” said Rep. Neguse, House Assistant Minority Leader. “I’m proud to work with the American Flood Coalition on solutions that harness innovation, embrace nature, and strengthen resilience to ensure we can better prepare for and mitigate the effects of these growing threats.”

Rep. Neguse joins 49 bipartisan AFC Federal Champions, those members of Congress dedicated to advancing solutions to stronger storms and more frequent flooding. Rep Neguse joins Rep. Jason Crow as a Federal Champion from the Centennial State.

“Rep. Neguse has navigated the complexity of increasingly extreme hazards and led efforts to invest in robust, forward-looking federal data, build more resilient roads, bridges, and water systems, and equip states and communities with the resources and capacity they need to be better prepared for the future,” said Melissa Roberts, Executive Director, American Flood Coalition. “We welcome him as a Federal Champion and look forward to deepening our partnership on these and other priorities.”

Rep. Neguse has served on the House Natural Resources, Judiciary, and Rules Committees, including as the top Democrat on the House Natural Resources’ Subcommittee on Federal Lands. In that role, he has focused on enhancing conservation policy to deliver national and regional flood solutions. Rep. Neguse also serves in House Democratic leadership in the role of Assistant Democratic Leader.

Rep. Neguse has championed more effective federal resilience policy and disaster recovery reform, including as Co-Chair and founder of the Congressional Disaster Preparedness and Recovery Caucus. He has also introduced legislation to make federal disaster recovery programs for individuals more efficient, effective, and equitable.
