AFC Executive Director on Inflation Reduction Act

The Inflation Reduction Act will provide communities with funding and capacity to better adapt to flooding and sea level rise.

WASHINGTON, DC — August 16, 2022 — Today, President Biden signed into law the Inflation Reduction Act, which will invest billions in programs and projects that improve flood resilience.

“In the past few weeks alone, too many places across the U.S. have been forced to reckon with the devastating impacts of flooding and sea level rise. As the American Flood Coalition works to transform how we approach these challenges, we need significant investment so that all communities can plan smarter, respond faster, and recover stronger from flooding,” said Melissa Roberts, Founder and Executive Director of the American Flood Coalition.

“By boosting federal capabilities to provide forward-looking flood data and modeling and  expanding investment — particularly for much-needed technical assistance — to advance resilience and adaptation projects, the law will help build safer, stronger, and more prosperous communities for years to come,” said Roberts. “As the Inflation Reduction Act opens up additional avenues for locally driven flood resilience and adaptation, we look forward to working with federal partners, coalition members, and stakeholders nationwide to deliver on the promise of these new funds.”
