As Long Island residents face increased flood risk, Rep. Garbarino commits to leading on strategies and solutions to bolster resilience in response to flooding and sea level rise.
WASHINGTON, DC — April 19, 2022 — The American Flood Coalition (AFC) today announced that Representative Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) has been recognized as a Federal Champion in alignment with the nonpartisan, national alliance dedicated to advancing proactive solutions to frequent flooding, stronger storms, and rising seas.
“I am proud to be recognized as a Federal Champion by the American Flood Coalition, which is doing important work to help communities in New York and beyond better prepare for and respond to flooding,” said Rep. Garbarino. “Families, small businesses, and local leaders throughout Long Island understand the need for common sense policies to protect lives and livelihoods from floods. I look forward to continued partnership with AFC on these critical priorities.”
Rep. Garbarino is the 27th Federal Champion recognized by AFC, a designation reserved for leaders who are committed to finding national solutions to flooding and sea level rise. This distinguished group includes two additional Federal Champions from New York’s congressional delegation.
“I am delighted to welcome Representative Garbarino to AFC’s strong contingent of Federal Champions from New York,” said Melissa Roberts, Executive Director, American Flood Coalition. “As a leading voice on the need for flood resilient infrastructure, Congressman Garbarino has been a consistent champion for smart, forward-thinking solutions to protect those on the front lines of flooding.”
Through his leadership on the House Committee on Homeland Security and the House Committee on Small Business, Rep. Garbarino has supported efforts to strengthen the federal response to disasters and expedite recovery, and to help entrepreneurs take proactive steps to increase their flood resilience. His commitment to addressing these and other flooding challenges will further bolster AFC’s efforts in New York, as 11 of AFC’s more than 280 members are in the Empire State.
