American Flood Coalition Recognizes Representative Tim Kennedy as a Federal Champion

As New York faces stronger storms, higher seas, and more frequent flooding, Rep. Tim Kennedy commits to leading on solutions to build resilience and improve disaster recovery processes.

WASHINGTON, DC — March 10, 2026 — The American Flood Coalition (AFC) today recognized Representative Tim Kennedy (NY) as a Federal Champion for his leadership, public service, and commitment to finding solutions to challenges posed by flooding.

“I have championed flood resilience throughout my career as a public servant, first in the New York State Senate and now as a member of Congress,” said Representative Kennedy. “As a member of the American Flood Coalition during my time as a state legislator, and now as a Federal Champion, I’m excited to continue collaborating on common-sense flooding solutions and improving the disaster recovery system to help communities in Western New York and across the country.”

Rep. Kennedy joins 54 bipartisan AFC Federal Champions, those members of Congress dedicated to combatting the effects of stronger storms and more frequent flooding. Rep. Kennedy is the fifth Federal Champion from the Empire State, joining Reps. Tom Suozzi, Joseph Morelle, Andrew Garbarino, and Nick LaLota.

“Rep. Kennedy continues to be a strong voice for helping local communities better prepare for and recover from flooding and other disasters, just as he did in the New York State Senate,” said Melissa Roberts, Executive Director of the American Flood Coalition. “We are grateful for his leadership to deliver a fairer, faster federal disaster recovery system that builds more resilient communities in New York and beyond.

As Ranking Member of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emergency Management and Technology, Rep. Kennedy has oversight of key emergency preparedness, response, mitigation, resilience, and recovery programs at FEMA.

During his tenure in the New York State Senate representing Western New York, Mr. Kennedy secured millions in funding for infrastructure investment as Chair of the Transportation Committee and championed Great Lakes issues.
