As South Carolina faces stronger storms and more frequent flooding, Congresswoman Biggs commits to leading on flood resilience and disaster recovery solutions.
WASHINGTON, DC — October 6, 2026 — The American Flood Coalition (AFC) today recognized Representative Sheri Biggs (SC) as a Federal Champion for her leadership, public service, and commitment to finding solutions to challenges posed by flooding.
“When Hurricane Helene devastated communities across my district, the storm was just the beginning — too many families were left to navigate a slow, complicated federal recovery process to get the help they were owed,” said Congresswoman Biggs. “As a Federal Champion, I’m committed to working with the American Flood Coalition to protect South Carolina communities from flooding and to build a faster, more effective disaster recovery system that families here and across the country deserve.”
Rep. Biggs joins 61 bipartisan AFC Federal Champions, those members of Congress dedicated to combating the effects of stronger storms and more frequent flooding. She is the fifth Federal Champion from the Palmetto State, joining Sen. Tim Scott and Reps. Russell Fry and William Timmons, among others.
“While South Carolina is making great strides to deliver proactive resilience and flood protection at the state level, too many of its communities are waiting on a broken federal disaster recovery system that wasn’t built for the people who need it most,” said Melissa Roberts, AFC Founder and Executive Director. “Rep. Biggs understands these challenges firsthand from her work with veterans, first responders, and rural families in the wake of disasters. We are proud to welcome her as a Federal Champion and look forward to working alongside her to deliver a better federal disaster recovery system for all.”
In Congress, Rep. Biggs serves on the House Committee on Homeland Security, which has broad oversight of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Homeland Security’s emergency preparedness and disaster response programs. She also serves on the House Committees on Science, Space, and Technology and on Foreign Affairs.
