American Flood Coalition Recognizes Representative Marc Molinaro as a Federal Champion for Bipartisan Solutions on Flood Mitigation
As New York faces stronger storms, Rep. Molinaro commits to leading on smart, proactive flood solutions.
WASHINGTON, DC — December 12, 2023 — The American Flood Coalition today recognized Representative Marc Molinaro (R-NY) as a Federal Champion for his leadership, public service, and commitment to finding bipartisan solutions to challenges posed by flooding.
AFC Federal Champions recognizes members of Congress on both sides of the aisle who are dedicated to advancing solutions to stronger storms, more frequent flooding, and higher seas.
“100-year floods are supposed to happen once every 100 years. That’s no longer the case. Our climate is changing and a lack of focus is leaving Upstate New York and the nation more vulnerable than ever to costly flooding,” said Rep. Molinaro. “I’ve been proud to partner with the America Flood Coalition to deliver common sense, bipartisan solutions to bolster flood resilience, particularly for farmers and rural communities, who are on the frontlines of flood disasters. I’m very honored to receive this bipartisan recognition.”
“Congressman Molinaro is a leading champion for farmers in rural communities, consistently fighting to strengthen flood resilience across the state and country,” said Melissa Roberts, Executive Director of the American Flood Coalition. “As communities in Upstate New York face stronger storms and more frequent flooding, Mr. Molinaro’s leadership, dedication, and unique perspective will strengthen our efforts to build long-lasting flood solutions.”
Native to Upstate New York, Mr. Molinaro’s service in the New York State Assembly and as a County Executive, as well as his leadership in the New York State Association of Counties and the New York State County Executives Association demonstrate his long track record of supporting flood solutions at the local and state levels, especially on behalf of agricultural communities.
As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, Rep. Molinaro has shepherded federal efforts to empower farmers to protect rural communities from flooding, including his introduction of the bipartisan Flooding Prevention, Assessment, and Restoration Act, which would deliver solutions at the watershed level to help communities better prepare for, respond to, and recover from flood events.
