American Flood Coalition Recognizes Representative Addison McDowell as a Federal Champion

As North Carolina faces stronger storms and more frequent flooding, Rep. McDowell commits to leading on flood solutions

WASHINGTON, DC — June 17, 2025 — The American Flood Coalition (AFC) today recognized Representative Addison McDowell (NC) as a Federal Champion for his leadership, public service, and commitment to finding solutions to challenges posed by flooding.

“As a conservative and outdoorsman, I’m committed to a smarter, more efficient response to natural disasters. That means pro-innovation, forward-looking solutions that strengthen our watersheds and communities,” said Representative McDowell. “As our neighbors across Western North Carolina continue long-term recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene, I look forward to delivering common sense reforms and investments that strengthen our state and all communities for the future.”

Rep. McDowell joins 53 bipartisan AFC Federal Champions, those members of Congress dedicated to advancing solutions to stronger storms and more frequent flooding. Rep. McDowell is the ninth Federal Champion from the Tar Heel State, joining Sens. Ted Budd and Thom Tillis, and Reps. Don Davis, Chuck Edwards, Virginia Foxx, Tim Moore, Greg Murphy, and David Rouzer.

“Rep. McDowell brings fresh perspective and energy to our already strong contingent of Federal Champions from North Carolina,” said Melissa Roberts, Executive Director of the American Flood Coalition. “From joining President Trump’s survey of Hurricane Helene damage in early 2025 to prioritizing more effective FEMA and transportation policy as a member of House T&I, Rep. McDowell is already leading on shared priorities that will benefit flood-impacted communities in North Carolina and beyond.”

Rep. McDowell is an avid outdoorsman and supporter of effective conservation efforts to enhance healthy watersheds and waterfowl habitat. As a member of the House Committees on Transportation and Infrastructure and Natural Resources, Rep. McDowell has oversight of key federal flood resilience programs and policies, including those at FEMA, Department of Transportation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Department of the Interior, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
