Vicente Gonzalez

Congressman, Texas

Representative Vicente Gonzalez represents the 34th district of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Mr. Gonzalez was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, and grew up in a military family. He attended Del Mar College where he received an Associate’s degree in Banking and Finance in 1990. He went on to earn a B.A. in Business Aviation in 1992, followed by a J.D. from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law (now Texas A&M School of Law) in 1996. While in law school, Mr. Gonzalez interned for Texas Congressman Solomon P. Ortiz.

In 1997, Mr. Gonzalez opened his own law practice in McAllen, Texas. In addition to being a member of the Texas and New York bar associations, Mr. Gonzalez is authorized to practice before the United States Supreme Court.

Representative Gonzalez serves on the House Financial Services Committee in the 118th Congress.

As a native South Texan, Representative Gonzlaez understands impacts from major storms and catastrophic flooding firsthand. While Texas’s 34th district narrowly avoided Hurricane Harvey’s direct path in 2017, its residents endured heavy rainfall, storm surge, and flooding from the storm. Representative Gonzalez has channeled that experience into oversight of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), including through his efforts to improve flood map accuracy and other NFIP reforms.

Mr. Gonzalez lives in the Rio Grande Valley with his wife Lorena Saenz, a former teacher and school administrator.
