Miami is one of the most exposed cities in the world to sea level rise. We must begin working to address this issue now because, if not, our children and our children’s children will not have the magic city we so enjoy.
Tomas Pedro Regalado is the former Mayor of Miami. Previously, he was the News Director for Spanish Broadcasting Systems, a daily host and commentator on WWFE la Poderosa, and a host of a daily news program on the Cable Network TeleMiami.
After becoming the youngest reporter on staff at WFAB, La Fabulosa, Regalado went on to work at notable radio and television broadcast companies such as as WCKT (an NBC affiliate), Channel 7, and WLTV Channel 23, as Latin American News Editor, News Producer and Anchor, host, reporter, and News Director. In 1970, he became WFAB’s first international news correspondent, traveling to Africa, and covered the civil war in Angola, the riots in Soweto, South Africa, and the civil war in Mozambique.
In 1983, Regalado became the first Cuban American member of the White House Press Corps. In 1986, Regalado was approved as an applicant to NASA’s Journalist in Space Program which was later canceled after the Challenger explosion. While a full time News Director on Spanish language radio Regalado also worked for El Miami Herald as a weekly columnist. Regalado covered the civil war in Nicaragua and El Salvador and has visited over 78 countries throughout the world. Prior to serving as Mayor, Regalado was elected as Miami City Commissioner in 1996 and re-elected in both 1999 and 2003.
Regalado received his education at Lindsey Hopkins vocational school, through seminars at the University of Miami Koubek Center for Journalism, and as an intern at WFAB.
