Tim Moore

State Representative, North Carolina-111th District

Tim Moore is the current Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives, serving House District 111, Cleveland County.  First elected to the North Carolina General Assembly in 2002, he is serving his third term as the presiding officer of the chamber.  In 2019, Speaker Moore became the longest tenured House Republican Speaker in North Carolina history.

A lifelong resident of Kings Mountain, Tim graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Political Science before obtaining his J.D. from Oklahoma City University School of Law.  After concluding his studies and returning to Cleveland County, he started a law practice which he still manages today.  In 1997, Tim was appointed to the University of North Carolina Board of Governors at age 26, becoming the youngest appointment in the history of that body.

Throughout his term as Speaker, Tim has witnessed numerous devastating storms and flood events impact fellow North Carolinians.  In the wake of these storms, he has often participated in damage assessment tours and briefings, conducted outreach to local officials and state leaders, and received input from residents and business owners.   These experiences and difficult discussions have shaped Speaker Moore’s views on effective flood mitigation, preparation and resiliency strategies moving forward.

Tim resides in Kings Mountain with his two sons, McRae and Wilson, and is a member of First Baptist Church of Kings Mountain.  He enjoys spending time with family, engaging with his constituents, hiking and experiencing the vast natural resources of the State of North Carolina.
