Senator Tim Kaine represents the Commonwealth of Virginia in the U.S. Senate.
Mr. Kaine was born in the Kansas City, Missouri, area and attended the University of Missouri before earning his J.D. at Harvard Law School.
After graduation, Mr. Kaine moved to Richmond, Virginia, where he practiced law for 17 years, specializing in housing discrimination cases. He also taught classes at the University of Richmond School of Law.
His career in public service began in 1994 on the Richmond City Council, followed by a successful term as Mayor of Richmond. Mr. Kaine was elected Virginia Lieutenant Governor in 2002, before successfully running for Governor of Virginia. From 2009 to 2011, Mr. Kaine served as Chairman of the Democratic National Committee. In 2012, he was elected to the Senate, where he has served since his January 2013 swearing in.
In the 118th Congress, Senator Kaine serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee, the Senate Budget Committee, the Senate Healthcare, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Senator Kaine led efforts to enact the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and has championed its investments in flood resilience across Virginia. He has also collaborated with AFC on numerous priorities, including enhancing U.S. Army Corps of Engineers policy to more accurately capture flood risk in areas highly concentrated with federal lands like Hampton Roads. He has also led efforts to enhance Department of Defense installations from flooding and sea level rise.
Mr. Kaine lives in Richmond, Virginia, with his wife, Anne. They have three adult children.
