The Town of South Palm Beach is a town located in Palm Beach County, Florida. Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, South Palm Beach is a haven for roughly 3,000 residents.
South Palm Beach is a small, vibrant community with a high quality of life and residential feel. Located on the same barrier island as Manalapan, this town is only 5/8 of a mile long.
Due to its location, South Palm Beach is vulnerable to flooding and sea level rise. The Vulnerability Analysis of the Southeast Florida to Sea Level Rise was performed to determine vulnerability of four counties, including Palm Beach County. The analysis provides 1, 2, and 3 foot sea level rise scenarios and determined that of the four counties, Palm Beach County has a higher topography than many and a lack of natural and man-made waterways west of the Intracoastal Waterway. This helps to limit potential impacts of sea level rise, but the town will still need to be proactive with resilience measures.
South Palm Beach benefits from the Palm Beach County Coastal Resilience Partnership (CRP) which received funding from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Florida Resilient Coastlines Program (FRCP) in order to take a coordinated approach to planning for sea level rise and coastal resilience efforts. CRP will lay the groundwork to achieve a regional resilience planning strategy that works for all communities.
