Congressman, Alabama

Congressman Shomari C. Figures represents Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, Congressman Figures earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Alabama. Before his election to Congress in 2024, he clerked for a federal judge and served as Domestic Director of Presidential Personnel in the White House. He later served as White House Liaison at the Department of Justice and as counsel in the U.S. Senate, before returning to the Department of Justice as Deputy Chief of Staff to Attorney General Merrick Garland.

In the 119th Congress, Congressman Figures serves on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, including its Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management, which has jurisdiction over federal disaster preparedness and emergency management programs. He also serves on the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, which has jurisdiction over investments in the nation’s roads, bridges and other transportation infrastructure. He additionally serves on the House Committee on Agriculture, which oversees rural development programs for agricultural and rural communities across southern Alabama.

Congressman Figures has been a vocal champion for bipartisan efforts to reform FEMA and strengthen federal disaster recovery programs and processes. He has also prioritized federal investment in the National Estuaries Program to enhance water quality and flood resilience of Mobile Bay and coastal waterways across the Gulf Coast.

Congressman Figures is married to Dr. Kalisha Dessources Figures, and they have four children.
