The City of Sesser is located in Franklin County, Illinois, and is home to a population of approximately 2,000 people. With a total land area of just over one square mile, this compact city is located to the west of Rend Lake, the state’s second-largest manmade lake. Rend Lake supplies drinking water to the surrounding region, and also contributes to flood reduction by slowing and storing waters from the Big Muddy River and Casey Fork River. Originally established as a railroad and mining village in 1906, the city is home to Miners Memorial Park, and is known for its Annual Rend Lake Days Festival, a tradition that has continued for six decades, featuring music and family events, along with local corn on the cob and barbecue sandwiches.
