Commissioner Ruben A. Coto, elected to the Surfside Town Commission on March 19, 2024, brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to community service. Previously serving on the Commission in 2004, Coto was instrumental in protecting Surfside from overdevelopment, enhancing local school relationships, and fostering resident participation in community activities. His vision includes enforcing town codes equitably, maintaining public spaces, advancing undergrounding projects, and addressing flooding issues. Coto is dedicated to completing the Champlain Towers South Memorial Park with the respect it deserves for the 98 victims and their families.
A 34-year resident of Surfside, Coto is a small business owner specializing in health and life insurance. He holds a degree in Dental Technology from Martin Technical College and has studied Political Science at Miami-Dade Community College. Passionate about civic engagement, he has served on various town committees and as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader. Coto aims to restore trust and inclusivity, ensuring a productive dialogue between the Commission and all Surfsiders.
