Peter McCoy

Former State Representative, South Carolina-115th District

Peter McCoy is a former State Representative for South Carolina’s 115th District and partner at McCoy and Stokes, where he has practiced extensively in Magistrate, Municipal, General Sessions, Common Pleas, and Federal District Court.

Previously, McCoy served as a criminal prosecutor for Charleston County, where he started as the lead DUI prosecutor and went on to handle thousands of cases, from white collar crimes to murder cases. Prior to this he was an Assistant Solicitor for the Ninth Circuit by Solicitor Ralph Hoisington.

In 2013, Peter was one of seven lawyers throughout South Carolina selected as a 2013 Super Lawyers Rising Star in the practice area of Criminal Defense Law. He also holds the highest peer-reviewed, professional rating (“AV Preeminent“) available from Martindale-Hubbell reflecting a combination of “Very High General Ethical Standards” and overall “Legal Ability.”

McCoy served on the Judiciary and Rules committees. He is on the Advisory Board to Save the Morris Island Lighthouse and is a Past President of the Charleston Lawyers Club.

McCoy received his B.A. in History and Religion from Hampden-Sydney College and obtained his J.D. from Regent University School of Law.
