Pasco County is a resilient community located on the West Coast of Florida near the Gulf of Mexico, the county is known for its citrus industry, calm communities and enjoyable outdoor activities and attracts people annually from all over Florida – and beyond. Due to its location and proximity to the ocean, the county is highly susceptible to storms, strong winds and heavy rains that leads to flooding and other hazards. The county website offers resources ranging from flood safety, to evacuation zones, local mitigation strategy and ways to prepare for different emergencies.
Pasco County is also involved in educating the future generation of emergency managers by offering trainings, workshops and programs tailored for youth and development. One of the programs is called “HERricane” and includes multiple sessions and activities with speakers from Emergency Management, Media Relations & Communications, Fire Rescue, Emergency Services (911), Corrections, the Sheriff’s Office, and the Florida Department of Health. Students receive Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) certification upon program completion, and the program counts towards volunteer hours for their high schools. These initiatives make a big difference in inspiring the next generation and Pasco County is at the forefront of it all in the State of Florida!
