Palm Beach County, located in Southeast Florida, is one of the largest and most populous counties in the state at almost 2,000 square miles and over 1.5 million people. Most of the population resides near the Atlantic coast in the eastern part of the county, and the western part is largely dedicated to agricultural and natural areas, as well as Lake Okeechobee.
Since 2010, Palm Beach County has been a member of the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact – a partnership with Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe counties that tackles climate issues including sea level rise. The county and seven municipalities also formed the Coastal Resilience Partnership to complete a vulnerability assessment. The county has secured $1.3 million in grant funding to expand this assessment and develop a resilience action plan. The county also works closely on flooding issues with other regional stakeholders like the South Florida Water Management District and is in the process of completing a stormwater master plan.
While working to ensure a sustainable, thriving community, the county prioritizes equity-centered planning and outcomes for all residents and visitors.
