Nueces County

Texas

Nueces County is located in the state of Texas and is a part of the Corpus Christi metropolitan area. It is named for the Nueces River, which flows through the county.

The county was formed in 1846 from portions of San Patricio County and organized the following year. Today, Nueces County is the 14th-most populous county in the state and is a major resort area known for its vast beaches, fishing, water sports, and birding.

As a part of FEMA’s nationwide risk MAP (Mapping, Assessment, Planning) effort, a project was recently initiated to study and update the floodplain information in Nueces county. Additionally, FEMA is currently in the process of completing the Nueces County Coastal Study, which is the most comprehensive study to date. As a result of this study, Flood Insurance Rate Maps will be revised to adjust the Base Flood Elevations and Special Flood Hazard Areas within Nueces County.
