Nick LaLota

Representative, New York

Representative Nick LaLota represents New York’s 1st Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Mr. LaLota is a native New Yorker, born and raised in Bay Shore, New York.

He graduated from St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington before being nominated to the United States Naval Academy. He served in the United States Navy, gaining the rank of Lieutenant.

In 2013, Mr. LaLota was appointed to the Amityville Board of Trustees. A year later, he successfully ran for election and then re-election. He also served as Commissioner of the Suffolk County Board of Elections and as Chief of Staff to a New York state senator. Mr. LaLota most recently served as the Chief of Staff to the Suffolk County Legislature, before successfully running for Congress in 2022.

In the 118th Congress, Representative LaLota serves on the House Committee on Armed Services, House Committee on Homeland Security, and the House Committee on Small Business.

Encompassing much of Suffolk County and eastern Long Island, New York’s 1st Congressional District has experienced significant impacts from flooding. Its residents endured severe flooding and related destruction from Hurricane Sandy, one of the most catastrophic storms in U.S. history.

In the 118th Congress, Representative LaLota has supported efforts to better prepare and respond to flooding. This includes championing a bipartisan proposal to reduce flood risk for homeowners through the National Flood Insurance Program.

Mr. LaLota lives in Amityville, New York, with his wife, Kaylie, and their three daughters.
