Through the [coalition], local knowledge can be shared and refined as we seek global solutions to the imminent challenge of sea level rise. Never in our time has the historic City of Charleston faced a more looming threat than the advance of water on our infrastructure. The time to act is now, and through shared knowledge and cooperation across political subdivisions and parties the [coalition] will lead the way in defining short and long-term solutions.
Mike Seekings is a Charleston City Councilmember, serving District 8. He is also a partner with the firm of Leath, Bouch & Seekings, LLP, representing owners in complex construction defect litigation, and an adjunct professor at the Charleston School of Law and the College of Charleston.
After graduating law school, Seekings clerked for former South Carolina Governor Donald S. Russell on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, then went on to work for Latham & Watkins, in its Washington, D.C. office. Seekings serves as Chairman of CARTA and is on the Board of the Charleston Area Convention and Visitor Bureau, the Gibbes Museum, and the Cooper River Bridge Run.
Seekings is a member of the South Carolina, New York, and District of Columbia Bar Associations and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the District of South Carolina. He is a former member of the South Carolina Bar’s House of Delegates and the executive committee of the Charleston Bar.
Seekings graduated with honors from Amherst College and went on to obtain his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
