Mary Lehman

Delegate Mary Lehman has been a member of the Maryland House of Delegates since January 2019, representing communities in Prince George’s and Anne Arundel Counties.  She is a member of the newly formed House Government, Labor, and Elections Committee and is the chair of the Local Government/BiCounty Agencies and Administration Subcommittee.  She is also a member of the Corrections and the Government Operations and Ethics Subcommittees.  She is also a member of the Joint Audit and Evaluation Committee and the Joint Committee on Ending Homelessness.

Delegate Lehman served on the House Environment and Transportation Committee from  2019-2025.  During that time, she served on the Environment; Land Use and Ethics; Local Government and Bi-County Agencies; Housing and Real Property; Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Open Space subcommittees.  She has also chaired the Prince George’s County Law Enforcement Subcommittee and the Anne Arundel County Education Subcommittee.

Delegate Lehman was the Prince George’s County District 1 Councilmember from 2010 – 2018.  She was a member of the Transportation, Housing and the Environment Committee for the length of her term and chaired the committee for three of those years.

Delegate Lehman considers flooding an inevitable issue and intends to continue to work on how to prepare for flooding, whether it is coastal, riverine or storm related.  She has sponsored multiple bills that have focused on flooding during her tenure in the Maryland House.  

Her legislative work includes:  Coastal and riverine siting and design criteria; flood risk assessment and model ordinance; and youth camp and RV park emergency preparedness.  In 2026, Delegate Lehman passed legislation making Maryland the 32^nd state to require residential real property flood risk disclosure.  She also passed this year legislation that protects over 20,000 acres of natural land in the Patuxent Research Refuge and Beltsville Agricultural Research Center.  This critical open space is considered a green lung between Baltimore, MD and Washington, DC and conserves woodlands, fields, and riverine plains, as well as the wildlife that lives there and migrates through. 

Delegate Lehmen is a native resident of Prince George’s County.  She attended the University of Maryland, College Park, and received a B.A. in English Literature and a B.S. in Journalism.  She is a determined environmentalist and intends to leave this world in a better place for her four children.
