Marvin Lucas

State Representative, North Carolina-42nd District

Marvin Lucas, Jr. is a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, serving District 42, Cumberland County. In his 10th term, he has previously served as the Deputy Minority Whip for the House Democratic Caucus.   

Rep. Lucas received his B.S. from Fayetteville State University, M.A. from North Carolina Central University, and Ed. S at East Carolina University. He is a retired educator and principal. Marvin and his wife Brenda are parents to three adult children and currently reside in Spring Lake.  

He currently serves on the standing House Committees on Alcoholic Beverage Control, Appropriations, Appropriations-Education, Education K-12, Health, Insurance, and Wildlife Resources. Additionally, Rep. Lucas is a member of the House Select Committees on COVID-19 and School Safety.    

Prior to his current role as a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, Rep. Lucas served for 20 years on the Spring Lake Board of Aldermen and three years as Mayor. He is an active member of the Methodist Church and has been engaged in a range of civic and community organizations over the years, including the North Carolina Association of Educators, Spring Lake Kiwanis Club, RBC Centura Advisory Board, and One Hundred Black Men of America.
