Marco Rubio

Senator, Florida

Unfortunately, Floridians have experienced the dangers and destruction that flooding can cause. Throughout my time in the Senate, we’ve taken important steps to help mitigate flood risks and ensure that Florida’s families and businesses are prepared. I will continue working on solutions to make Florida more resilient against hurricanes, flooding, and other extreme weather.

Senator Marco Rubio represents the state of Florida in the U.S. Senate.

Born in Miami as the son of Cuban immigrants, Rubio studied at the University of Florida before earning his law degree from the University of Miami.

Mr. Rubio first held public office as a City Commissioner for West Miami. He was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2000, where he went on to serve as majority whip, majority leader, and speaker before concluding his statehouse tenure in 2008. Prior to his election to the U.S. Senate in 2010, Rubio taught at Florida International University.

In the 117th Congress, Senator Rubio serves on the Senate Committee on Appropriations, including its Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies and Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Subcommittees. He also serves on the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee and as Vice Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

Senator Rubio has led on Florida priorities such as Everglades restoration and helping communities recover from hurricanes and major flooding. He has championed proposals including the bipartisan Providing Resources for Emergency Preparedness and Resilient Enterprises (PREPARE) Act, which aims to increase small businesses’ resilience to natural hazards by establishing an SBA pre-disaster mitigation loan program to help small businesses proactively manage flood risk.

Mr. Rubio and his wife, Jeanette, live in West Miami and are parents of four children.
