Civic Organization

The Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council (LRGVDC) is a voluntary association of local governments formed as one of the State of Texas’ 24 regional Council of Governments (COG’s) serving Cameron, Hidalgo and Willacy County. The LRGVDC promotes and encourages cooperation among local units of government in order to improve the region’s health, safety, and general welfare and to plan for future development. Its membership includes: County and Municipal Governments, Public Educational Institutions & School Districts, Special Purpose Governmental Units, and Stakeholder Organizations dedicated to the regional, unified development of the region. LRGVDC is governed by a 27 member Board of Directors of whom two-thirds are required to be elected officials of the designated boundaries. LRGVDC carries out is vast designated duties and responsibilities through four programmatic departments: Community & Economic Development, Health & Human Services, Public Safety, and Transportation.
