Laurel Lee

Congresswoman, Florida

Representative Laurel Lee represents the 15th district of Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Born at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, Mrs. Lee grew up in a military family. She earned a B.A. from the University of Florida in 1996, followed by a J.D. in 1999 from its Fredric G. Levin College of Law.

Mrs. Lee served as a federal prosecutor in the United States Attorney’s Office in the Middle District of Florida. She was then appointed as a Circuit Court Judge in the 13th Judicial Circuit of Florida in Hillsborough County, where she served from 2013–2019. In January 2019, Mrs. Lee was appointed as Florida’s 36th Secretary of State, a role she held until May 2022 when she decided to run for Congress.

Representative Lee serves on the House Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees in the 118th Congress.

As a Floridian, Mrs. Lee understands the need for smart, proactive resilience and adaptation measures in anticipation of stronger storms and major floods. In 2022, Hurricane Ian ravaged the state of Florida, including Polk and Hillsborough Counties within the 15th district, where the storm brought 12 inches of rainfall, caused four deaths, and damaged approximately 1,500 structures.

Mrs. Lee lives in eastern Hillsborough County with her husband, Tom, and their three children.
