Mayor Pro Tem Larry A. White, elected to City Council in 2009, is a dedicated leader with a rich history of service and community involvement. A graduate of Conway High School and Elizabeth City State University, Larry’s commitment to education and public welfare has defined his career. Formerly a teacher at Socastee Middle School and a Health Educator at Region 6 of the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), Larry’s retirement hasn’t slowed his dedication. He now assists seniors with lawn care issues, embodying a true spirit of civic duty.
A prominent member of Bethel AME Church, Larry serves in various capacities, including Church School Superintendent and Choir member. His recent appointment as Area Commissioner of the Debutante and Master Commission for the Marion District of the AME Church underscores his leadership and dedication. Larry’s impact extends beyond the church, as he is a founding Board member and current President of A Father’s Place, serving communities across several counties. He is also an active member of Morning Star Lodge #72 and has contributed to numerous community initiatives, including Horry County First Steps and the Martin L. King, Jr. Planning Committee. As a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Larry’s leadership is marked by his ability to build consensus and drive innovation, transforming his city into a thriving, affordable, and vibrant place to live, work, and play.
