John Lundell served as Mayor of Coralville from 2013-2021. Prior to serving as mayor, he served as a city councilor for 10 years. He was recently inducted into the Iowa League of Cities’ Hall of Fame for his career in local government. Following devastating floods in 2008, the city has made significant improvements and investments to protect low-lying areas from floodwaters. The many projects completed have included reconstructing bridges and roads and constructing pump stations, berms, and a floodwall. Funding for these projects included more than $30 million from the state-run I-JOBS flood recovery program, along with funding from Community Development Block Grants, state sales tax increments, U.S. Economic Development Administration funds, HUD National Disaster Resilience Funding, and FEMA alternate project funds.
