Former Congressman John Katko has represented Central New York’s Onondaga, Cayuga, and Wayne Counties and parts of Oswego County 2015 – 2022.
A native of Camillus, New York, Katko attended Niagara University and Syracuse University College of Law, before embarking on a legal career in Washington, DC. Katko served as a Senior Trial Attorney at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice. Upon returning to Central New York, he served as a federal organized crime prosecutor in Syracuse for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of New York for over 15 years. In January 2013, Katko retired from the U.S. Department of Justice to run for Congress.
Former Congressman Katko currently served as Ranking Member on the House Committee on Homeland Security and as a member of the House Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure. He has been a champion for repeatedly-flooded communities along Lake Ontario, including through his leadership as sponsor of the House-passed Preliminary Damage Assessment Improvement Act of 2020. This bipartisan legislation would support FEMA’s federal disaster relief efforts by enhancing preliminary damage assessment processes.
Katko lives in Camillus with his wife, Robin, and their three children, Sean, Liam, and Logan.
