Rep. Jim Baird

Jim Baird represents Indiana’s 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Born and raised on a family farm in Fountain County, Indiana, Mr. Baird served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War before returning home to own and operate Baird Family Farms. He holds animal science degrees from Purdue University and a doctorate from the University of Kentucky.

Mr. Baird first held public office as a Putnam County Commissioner, then served for eight years in the Indiana House of Representatives, where he sat on the Agriculture and Rural Development and Environmental Affairs committees. Mr. Baird was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018.

In the 119th Congress, Rep. Baird serves on the House Committee on Agriculture, including as Vice Chair of its Subcommittee on Conservation, Research, and Biotechnology, where he oversees USDA watershed protection, floodplain easement, and emergency flood recovery programs. He also serves on the House Committees on Science, Space, and Technology and on Foreign Affairs.

In Congress, Rep. Baird has championed conservation and watershed investments to help Indiana’s rural and agricultural communities manage flood risk and recover from disasters. He has prioritized flood resilience policies within the 5-year federal Farm Bill, including reforms to strengthen the Emergency Watershed Protection Program and deliver a national USDA study on flood risks facing America’s farmlands.

Mr. Baird and his three children reside in Greencastle, Indiana.
