Howard Hunter, III

Former State Representative, North Carolina-5th District

Howard Hunter, III was a Democratic member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, serving District 5, Gates, Hertford, and Pasquotank Counties. Howard, a small business owner, is serving his 3rd term in the General Assembly and previously served ten years on the Hertford County Board of Commissioners. He and his wife Lori live in Ahoskie.  

Rep. Hunter has been involved in numerous community and civic originations including the Chowan University Board of Trustees, Northeastern Workforce Development Board, Hertford County Public Health Authority, Hertford County Economic Development Board, and as President of the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners.  

Howard served as the Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture and serves on the House Committees on Appropriations, Appropriations-Information Technology, Ethics, Health, Rules, Calendar, and Operations of the House, and Transportation. Additionally, he serves as Co-Chair of the House Select Committee on Community Relations, Law Enforcement, and Justice, and as a member of the House Select Committees on Disaster Relief and COVID-19.
