Greg Julian

Council Member Colonel (Ret.) Greg Julian brings three decades of military service, global crisis experience, and federal communications leadership to the Punta Gorda City Council, where he has served since his election in November 2024.
A 30-year U.S. Army veteran, Colonel Julian participated in combat and peacekeeping operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and Bosnia. He served as a tank company commander during Operation Desert Storm before transitioning into public affairs, where he became one of the Army’s most seasoned military spokespersons. He served as a public affairs adviser and spokesperson for the Department of War in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Supreme Allied Command Europe under NATO, and U.S. Southern Command in Miami — roles that placed him at the intersection of military operations, strategic communications, and international diplomacy. He retired from the Army in 2015.
Following his military career, Colonel Julian continued his public service in the federal civilian sector, serving as Press Secretary for the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement at the Department of the Interior and as Media Relations Chief for the National Security Agency before fully retiring in 2021. He and his wife Jeri then made Punta Gorda their permanent home — a Gulf Coast community that knows firsthand the devastating power of hurricanes and coastal flooding.
A father of six, Colonel Julian now applies a lifetime of crisis communication, interagency coordination, and strategic leadership to the challenges facing Punta Gorda — including the coastal resilience and flood preparedness issues that define life along Southwest Florida’s Charlotte Harbor.
