Dubuque, Iowa, is a historic city located in the northeastern part of the state, along the Mississippi River. It is the county seat of Dubuque County and is known for its rich history, beautiful architecture, and scenic riverfront location. Dubuque is the oldest city in Iowa. The city grew rapidly during the 19th century due to its strategic location on the Mississippi River, serving as a major hub for trade, shipping, and industry.
The City of Dubuque is a leader in resiliency efforts. It has implemented a Stormwater Best Management Practice (BMP) Material Assistance Program to encourage residents to make improvements on their property to reduce the quantity or improve the quality of stormwater runoff from their site. The City of Dubuque lies within the Catfish Creek and Bee Branch Watersheds, which flow to the Mississippi River. Due to its proximity to water and flash flooding continuing to affect the residents, Dubuque has started the Bee Branch Watershed Flood Mitigation Project, which seeks to mitigate flooding, improve water quality, stimulate investment, and enhance the quality of life within the Bee Branch Watershed.
