Dorothy Dowe

Councilwoman, Greenville, SC

Dorothy is originally from New York City and has proudly called Greenville, South Carolina home for the past 35 years. Her deep commitment to the community is evident through her extensive service on various boards, including the City of Greenville Public Safety Citizen Review Board, Pleasant Valley Connection, and the League of Women Voters. Over the last quarter-century, she has also been a driving force in leading PTA and other community organizations. Currently serving as Vice Mayor Pro Tem for the council, Dorothy’s dedication to Greenville’s well-being is further underscored by her certifications from the Municipal Association of South Carolina Advanced Municipal Elected Officials Institute and the Riley Institute Diversity Leaders Initiative. She actively serves as the City Council liaison to crucial entities such as the Greenville Transit Authority and the Visit Greenville SC Board of Directors. In addition to Greenville Transit and VGSC, she is the Council Liaison to the Greenville Downtown Airport and serves as the Mayor’s appointee to the SCTAC Board.

Dorothy is deeply committed to ensuring that Greenville remains a vibrant and inclusive community. Her focus on citizen engagement, improving access to housing and transportation, and managing growth sustainably reflects her passion for enhancing the city’s potential while maintaining its exceptional quality of life. With a Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from Duke University and an MBA from the USC Darla Moore School of Business, Dorothy brings a wealth of expertise to her endeavors. Her career trajectory, from roles in industrial manufacturing to entrepreneurship in academic consulting, highlights her adaptability and leadership.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Dorothy finds joy in running, travel, and cherished moments with her family and friends. Together with her husband, Steve, they have raised two accomplished children.
