As a son of Greene County, the Contentnea Creek’s gentle waters have been my backyard companion all through life. Yet too often, I’ve helplessly witnessed those familiar waters smash over their banks, flooding homes in destructive rage. Experiencing that firsthand sparked my resolve to better understand why our state’s waterways flood even as I aid my grieving neighbors. Now as public servant, I’m proud to add my educated voice to the growing chorus working diligently across the state to find proactive solutions. North Carolina’s 100 counties deserves our combined expertise so we can protect our people’s property and peace of mind. I have faith that if we put our minds together – engineers, hydrologists, legislators – we can develop infrastructure to tame these waters. With smart planning, we can guide old Contentnea back to the harmony we cherish while safeguarding our future.
