The Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1925, by visionary George E. Merrick, with the mission to foster and enhance the economic interests and quality of life in the Coral Gables community. The Chamber is comprised of businesses and professionals whose goal is to expand the local economy.
Coral Gables is a city southwest of downtown Miami, Florida, that spans over 47 miles of coastline and waterways. The city currently has a population of over 50,000 and is home to the University of Miami. The Chamber of Commerce prides itself on the renowned restaurants, world-class shopping, historic venues, unparalleled culture, divine residential living, outstanding educational and health care institutions, and international flair that make Coral Gables magnificent
Because the City of Coral Gables is located in a unique geographical area, it is particularly susceptible to flooding from major rain events and storm surge. The City is surrounded by major bodies of water such as the Atlantic Ocean, Biscayne Bay, and many rivers, lakes and canals. This flooding has the potential to impact not only residential areas, but local commerce.
With approximately 20 working committees and task forces, the Chamber of Commerce is heavily involved in the well-being and economic growth of Coral Gables, including flood protection and raising awareness of the dangers of sea level rise. The Chamber of Commerce and its membership are dedicated to efforts that ensure the stability and safety of Coral Gables, and those who live and work there.
