The Coastal Bend Council of Governments (CBCOG), established in 1966, is a voluntary association of cities and counties in an eleven- county region centered around the Corpus Christi metropolitan area. Today, all even counties and thirty-four cities comprise the Coastal Bend/State Region 20 an area of 10,273 square miles with a population of nearly 632,822. It is one of the twenty-four COGs in Texas, all legally defined as political subdivisions of the state. The Coastal Bend Council of Governments is a local governmental agency with legal responsibility for multi-jurisdictional planning in program areas such as health and welfare, community and economic development, environmental protection, public safety and 9-1-1 emergency communications to improve the quality of life for our citizens. The Coastal Bend Council of Governments annual Hurricane Conference, in May, has grown substantially over the years.

The 77-member Board of Directors, the governing body of the Coastal Bend Council of Governments, meet 11 times a year, usually on the fourth Friday of the month except in November and December, when the board of directors meet on the second Friday in December.

The Coastal Bend Council of Governments thrive to collaborate, communicate, coordinate and cooperate with our governing board, counties and cities governments, state and federal agencies and the general public to build community-based relationships for the successful planning and implementation of services, to achieve equity and diversity, and provide exceptional services through extraordinary employees.
