North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District spans fifteen counties and covers most of the western part of the state. Western North Carolina has experienced increasingly catastrophic flooding in recent years. In August 2021, Tropical Storm Fred caused flash floods in Canton, causing six casualties and destroying homes and much of the city’s infrastructure.
Since coming to Congress, Rep. Edwards has led efforts to bolster dam safety and better equip state and local emergency managers as they carry out swift water rescues during major floods.
Mr. Edwards resides in Flat Rock, North Carolina, with his wife, Teresa.
