Elected in 2021, Charles Kemp is serving his third term as Mayor of Fairmont, North Carolina. With 43 years of elected service, Kemp has the longest tenure of any elected official in Fairmont history.
Kemp served as the Mayor of Fairmont from 2005 to 2013 and previously earned the role of Fairmont Town Commissioner, a role he held for 28 years. Prior to this, Kemp worked in the public school education system where he worked as an educator for 40 years and won a number of awards and accolades.
As a long standing public servant, Mayor Kemp has implemented programs to improve Fairmont’s economy, downtown revitalization, appearance and government transparency, including reviving the Job Opportunities and Business Support Team, a group that helps promote job growth in the town. He is married to Karan Kemp, who serves as the mayor’s adviser for community enhancement and beautification.
