Cape Canaveral is a barrier island in Brevard County, Florida, with a population of over 10,000. Once known as Cape Kennedy, the world now knows Cape Canaveral as a launchpad where one giant leap for mankind began and aerospace and technology were born. Space is as intrinsic to Cape Canaveral as are the warm coastal breezes and waterways that surround the small, but mighty, city.
In The Space Between® a unique business community first emerged through aerospace and technology. Today, it includes tech companies, eclectic indie retail, restaurants, outdoor recreation, and the second largest cruise port in the country. Business thrives in The Space Between® High-tech + High Tide®, where a small community lends itself to economic opportunity, and residents still have a front row seat on launch day. Cape Canaveral remains a unique destination to be enjoyed by people from around the world, whether they come for sun, space, or sea.
Cape Canaveral is committed to delivering policies that are effective, sustainable, and resilient. As a coastal municipality, the city will pursue adaptation planning strategies, which include beach renourishment; eliminating inappropriate and unsafe development in coastal areas; and strategies to reduce the risk of flooding. With this in mind, the city will build on its work with the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council (ECFRPC) to develop sustainable policies specific to the City of Cape Canaveral. These efforts, collectively known as adaptation planning, will allow the city to take steps to address current and future coastal planning in Cape Canaveral.
