Bill Truex

Commissioner Bill Truex has served on the Charlotte County Board of County Commissioners since 2012, making him one of the longest-tenured county commissioners in Southwest Florida. He represents District 3, which includes the Englewood area, and has served multiple terms as Chairman of the Board. His current term runs through November 2028.
Born into a small farming community, Truex holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Indiana University and built his professional career in construction and real estate. He is the President and Owner of Truex Preferred Construction, a state-certified building firm he has operated in Englewood since 2005, and previously held corporate roles with AT&T, Roadway Express, and Roll Coater. His background as a builder and small business owner gives him a grounded, practical perspective on infrastructure, housing, and economic development — the defining challenges of one of Florida’s fastest-growing counties.
Truex has been an exceptionally active leader at both the state and national levels. He serves as President of the Florida Association of Counties and sits on the National Association of Counties Board of Directors, where he has chaired the Immigration Reform Task Force and served on committees focused on housing, public safety, water, and international economic development. He is an Advanced Certified County Commissioner II and a Lifetime Member of Leadership Florida.
Since 2001, when he first joined the Englewood Area Planning Advisory Board, Commissioner Truex has been a consistent voice for balancing Charlotte County’s rapid growth with the preservation of its agricultural heritage, natural resources, and coastal resilience.
