Rep. Ashley Hinson

Congresswoman, Iowa

Congresswoman Ashley Hinson represents Northeast Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives.

A native Iowan, Hinson grew up in Des Moines before attending the University of Southern California to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism. She returned to Cedar Rapids to begin a decade-long career as a news anchor, reporter, and producer for KCRG-TV. As an award-winning journalist, Hinson saw first-hand the effects of devastating flooding on Iowa communities providing on-the-ground coverage of the 2008 Iowa floods, as well as other extreme weather events affecting Eastern Iowa.

Prior to her election to Congress, Hinson served in the Iowa House of Representatives and was the first woman to represent Iowa’s 67th House district, serving Hiawatha, Robins, Cedar Rapids, and Marion. Among her accomplishments, Hinson led legislative efforts to restore critical funding for the Iowa Flood Center and increase the amount of time cities have to repay general obligation bonds issued for flood-related projects, making long-term, flood resilient infrastructure accessible to Iowa communities of all sizes.

Congresswoman Hinson is a member of the House Appropriations Committee and House Budget Committee.  She lives in Marion with her husband, Matt, and their two sons, Max and Jax.
