Rep. Al Green

Congressman, Texas

Since 2005, Congressman Al Green has served the 9th district of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Born in New Orleans, Mr. Green attended Florida A&M University, Howard University, and the Tuskegee Institute of Technology without attaining a bachelor’s degree. In 1973, he earned his Juris Doctor from Houston’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law.

Mr. Green went on to co-found the law firm of Green, Wilson, Dewberry, and Fitch. In 1977, he was appointed as a Justice of the Peace in Harris County, beginning 26 years of service in this role. Mr. Green also served as President of the Houston NAACP for approximately 10 years.

In the 118th Congress, Representative Green serves as the Ranking Member of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee of the House Financial Services Committee.

Texas’ 9th congressional district spans the greater southwest Houston area, which regularly faces major flooding disasters, including during Hurricane Harvey in 2017. Representative Green has since fought to deliver federal mitigation and recovery funds to the Houston area, as well as to reform post-disaster recovery programs to ensure they work better for survivors.

Representative Green was also a strong supporter of the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which provides billions for programs to harden at-risk transportation, coastal, and other critical infrastructure across the country.

Representative Green resides in Houston, Texas.
