Oldsmar

Pinellas County, Florida

Centrally situated at the heart of the Tampa Bay region, the City of Oldsmar is a charming waterfront community nestled along the upper Tampa Bay shoreline. Over the years, the shape of its coastline has changed due to storm surge, sea level rise, rainfall flooding, and extreme weather events – impacting its waterways and coastal eco-systems.

In 2020, the Oldsmar City Council gave its approval for the development of a Climate Resiliency Plan (CRP) to address the ongoing threat of inundation. Completed in 2021, Oldsmar’s CRP played a critical role in assessing the risks to the city’s infrastructure and proposing a range of strategies to minimize the potential impacts.

The CRP helps in better understanding risks to the community, which guides informed planning and programmatic decisions in the future. It also provides information to update the City’s Comprehensive Plan (CP) to comply with the Florida Peril of Flood Act requirements. These changes will ensure that future actions take food concerns into consideration. As a living document, the CP will be updated periodically to ensure Oldsmar continues to reduce and mitigate climate risks for its community stakeholders.
