Sullivan City is located in Hidalgo County and within the Lower Rio Grande Valley region of Texas. The “Valley” serves as an international border between the United States and Mexico. On the eastern border of the Valley lies the Gulf of Mexico and on the southern border, the Rio Grande. Today, City officials that have responsibility for the administration of Sullivan City include the City Mayor, City Commissioners, and City Manager. Sullivan City, like many communities in the region, has a history closely tied to agriculture and ranching and a rich Hispanic and Mexican cultural influence. The region offers opportunities for outdoor activities, including fishing, birdwatching, and nature exploration along the Rio Grande River. The American Flood Coalition is pleased to collaborate with Sullivan City and its leaders on flood resilience efforts.
