Jones County is located in southeastern North Carolina, a few miles from the Atlantic Ocean and in close proximity to several important U.S. military installations. The Trent River meanders through the County and is contained in the Great Dover Swamp in the north, White Oak Pocosin in the south central portion, and Lake Pocosin to the east. Jones County has excellent forest lands and environments for a rich variety of wildlife. The County has been a leading provider of lumber and has become well known among outdoorsmen. Besides being surrounded by various waterways, Jones County also contains the largest forest laboratory in the nation, Hoffman Forest and Croatan National Forest, which together make up 65% of the County.
